HELICAL PIERS SYSTEMS

If your project plans include complex foundation work, Carl Construction can enhance your project with our cost-effective Helical Pier Systems Helical Anchors.

HELICAL ANCHORS AND SCREW PILES
A screw piling is a circular hollow steel pipe section with one or more tapered steel plates (helixes) welded to the shaft. The plates are shaped as a helix with a carefully controlled pitch, which allows the pile to be inserted, with minimal soil disruption, into the ground.
Screw pile foundations are also referred to as Helical Anchors, Screw Anchors, Torque Piles and/or Helical Piles or Piers.

Screw piles were first used as foundations for buildings and bridges built over weak or wet soil. They had limited use for much of the 19th and early 20th century as the installation was difficult without mechanical assistance. During the 1960’s, hydraulic torque motors became readily available and the installation process became much easier. Recent years have seen screw piles being used in many different applications. The piles strong resistance to both uplift and bearing pressure allow them to be used in situations where resistance to combinations of these forces is required. Many advantages over traditional pilings, such as speed of installation and immediate loading capability have made screw piles the ideal foundation for many mainstream construction projects. Contact Carl Construction and let us show you how we can enhance your project with this highly effective technology.

GENERAL FOUNDATIONS
Because of the ability of a screw pile to deal with various loadings, the scew pile can be used in many load bearing situations including:
-
static loads (e.g. under buildings such as Steel Buildings)
-
alternating loads (e.g. under pump jacks)
-
vibratory loads (e.g. under compressors)
-
loads with high moment of overturn (e.g. towers)
-
grade beams (e.g. conventional buildings)
-
structural floor slabs
Carl Construction is a certified Helical Pier System contractor and is capable of completing project of most any size.

SLOPE STABILIZATION
Helical Anchors can be used in a variety of situations, including slope restoration and stabilization. Once the fault line has been found, anchors can be screwed in almost horizontally into more stable soil to facilitate anchoring stabilization walls.

STREET LIGHT BASES
Our street light bases are custom constructed to meet your individual needs. Cap thickness and size, slot or hole size, cable-way position and size, shaft size and length, and helix diameter are all variables in the street light base design. The street light bases are designed for resistance to bending moments, shearing forces, uplift loads and bearing loads.
Helical Pier Systems street light bases have many advantages over concrete pilings, including: quick installation reducing traffic disruption, installation in most any weather condition, little to no ground disturbance making for easy clean up and no spoils to remove.

TEMPORARY BUILDINGS AND MODULAR/MANUFACTURED HOMES
Screw Piles are well suited for use under mobile or temporary buildings. They can be installed in all weather and terrain conditions. They are reusable, making them as mobile as the building itself! Varying shaft lengths allows the building to be installed on uneven or sloping ground and with the optional leveling pile caps, you can ensure the building remains level, regardless of the soil situation.

BRIDGES AND BRIDGE ABUTMENTS
The use of helical piers depends both on soil conditions and loading. Small pedestrian bridges and golf course bridges are ideal for helical foundations. The lighter loading of a small bridge allows for smaller diameter product and can be installed quickly.

TOWER FOUNDATIONS
Whether you need communications tower, wind tower, utility tower or SCADA tower foundations, Helical Pier Systems helical piers/screw piles can provide a cost-effective, efficient solution.
Most often, construction of these types of foundations occurs on terrains that are almost always inaccessible and typical hostile to traditional foundations. Our screw pile foundations are designed for projects over deep wet organic soils to dense permafrost.

BOARDWALKS, DOCKS AND DECKS
Carl Construction can provide project construction using tieback anchors for soldier-piles/water walls that are job-specific. Soldier-pile installation and removal could not be any quicker. No vibration or spoils to remove. Ideal for any water walls especially in populated locations with existing infrastructure.
Helical pier solutions for these types of installation are environmentally friendly and can be installed in sensitive areas with minimal disturbance.

PIPELINE ANCHORS AND SUPPORTS
Whether above surface, or buried, Carl Construction can provide state of the art anchors/supports for pipeline construction to provide anchoring to overcome buoyancy and provide support for tensive, compressive and lateral loads.
